Former Delhi High Court judge Reva Khetrapal has been
selected as Delhi’s new Lokayukta. The post was lying vacant since 2013 after
retired Justice Manmohan Sarin had relinquished office after completing
five-year term. With this, she will become the fourth Lokayukta of Delhi and
shall have five years terms as per Delhi Lokayukta and Uplokayukta Act, 1995.
Background Justice Khetrapal was chosen as head of anti-corruption ombudsman
unanimously by a four-member panel. The panel included Lt Governor Najeeb Jung,
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court G Rohini and
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta. It should be noted that
she will be appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee after Lt Governor
recommends her name to President.
